We applied our fall (honey friendly) varroa mite treatment and began giving them 2 cups of sugar to one cup of water. Upon opening up the hive that split, the remaining bees are sadly dying out. I’m guessing the replacement queen didn’t survive as I did not see any active brood in the second deep. I left the surviving bees with one brood box. I’m happy to report that the other hive is doing fabulous is in the midst of making honey so I’ll keep the super on for a bit longer.
